Extended
Eligibility for Combat Veterans
The National Defense Authorization Act-2008 was signed at
first on 28th January 2008. The law extended the eligibility period of health
care from 2 years to 5 years especially for the veterans who had served in
various operations in the combat theater after 11th November 1998. The Veterans
Affairs (VA) Department nowadays, provides some health care services free of
cost under the authority. The department also provides nursing and home care
services for certain possible conditions related to the military service as
well as enrolling in 6 or Higher Priority Group. Recently the department has
enrolled veterans as well as new enrollees basically who was discharged from
their active duty services after or on 28th January 2003, will be eligible for
new enhanced benefits at a duration of 5 years after the discharge.
For the veterans who did not enroll in Veterans Affairs
during extended eligibility period as well as subsequent care and enrollment
eligibility on the basis of their rating on compensable service connections,
Veterans Affairs pension status, financial circumstances of the veteran’s and
catastrophic disability determination.
For the reasons stated above, combat veterans, even if they
don't need any medical care, are highly encouraged for applying to enroll
within this extended eligibility period.
